The Misguided Patriotism Behind 9/11

I’m about to make a lot of people upset (generally statists). Stop using 9/11 as a rallying point to glorify the US government and feel proud of your patriotism. It’s sickening. Harsh? Yes, but very true. How are you honoring the dead? Joe, co-host for the live show here, said the following:

How are we honoring those unlucky people who were killed 15 years ago? Is it by continuing our asinine foreign policy? Is it by funding radicals in the middle east? Is it by involving ourselves in the affairs of other nations? I hope not. I don’t mean us as the people in this nation, I mean our government that no longer represents us.

First and foremost, the recently declassified 28 pages have shown how US “ally” Saudi Arabia actively helped and supported the plane hijackers. The 28 pages show how Saudi agent Omar al-Bayoumi greatly assisted hijackers Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi when they arrived in San Diego back in 2000. The New York Post reports:

At the same time he was aiding the hijackers, Bayoumi was getting large salary increases from a Saudi defense front company tied to Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda, where he worked as a ghost employee. Another alleged Saudi intelligence officer who handled the hijackers, Osama Bassnan, worked closely with Bayoumi.

According to a CIA memo, cited by the now-uncensored 28-page section of the 9/11 report, “Bassnan reportedly received funding and possibly a fake passport from Saudi government officials.”

All of this supposedly went under the radar of the US government because the Saudis were considered “allies” (and are still considered “allies”). Perhaps the 28 pages had been kept under guard by the government in order to hide the shame of their stupidity and ineptitude. Or perhaps the US was in on it all along and needed a reason to “play in the sand” in the Middle East. I care little for the details or level of conspiracy. What matters is that governments are terrible at protecting those they claim they are protecting. In fact, protection is one of the main reasons statist argue that the government MUST exist! And here we have US “allies” babysitting would be hijackers and driving them to flight school. On top of that, we have the US government hiding this information from the victims families for 15 years!

Let us consider for a moment how Osama Bin Laden came to be in the first place. The Taliban and Al Qaeda have their roots in the mujahideen (Pakistani and Afghani fighters in the 70s). The US supported such fighters in an effort to turn the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan into Russia’s “Vietnam”. In fact, Zbigniew Brzezinski (who was Jimmy Carters National Security Advisor) traveled to the region in order to meet and encourage these fighters in their war against the Soviets. In 1998 Brzezinski admitted to the US support of the Islamic fighters and professed that he had no regrets for his actions and support of this covert operation:

Regret what? That secret operation was an excellent idea. It had the effect of drawing the Russians into the Afghan trap and you want me to regret it? The day that the Soviets officially crossed the border, I wrote to President Carter: We now have the opportunity of giving to the USSR its Vietnam war. Indeed, for almost 10 years, Moscow had to carry on a war unsupportable by the government, a conflict that brought about the demoralization and finally the breakup of the Soviet empire.

I highly doubt Brzezinski was regretting anything even in 2001. This has carried over to today where we have the scandal of Hillary Clinton supplying weapons and arms to “moderates” as well as profiting from corporations in business with ISIS. This trend of supporting “moderates” that eventually become your enemy is a trend that will undoubtedly continue so long as government continues to exists.

So I need to bring this back around to my first statement about patriotism. After 9/11 and on every anniversary of it, statists gather around and profess their thanks to their government for keeping them safe and for their “freedoms”. They thank the troops for their service in “protecting freedom” as well. How ridiculous! How can you be so “proud” of a country that creates the enemies that eventually want to kill you? How can you be supportive of a military that actively trains and arms terrorists? Doesn’t that make the US government the largest terrorist organization of them all? Recently it was discovered that a man who was trained by the State Department and by other US allies in counter terrorism defected to ISIS. On top of that, the US is offering a bounty of $3 million on him. Let that sink in for a moment. The US government stole from you in the form of taxation and inflationary monetary policy and paid to have this man to be trained. Then after he defected to ISIS, offers more of your stolen money to bring him in for “justice”. Is your loyalty to country justified given your government’s behavior and foreign policy? Perhaps you just have a serious case of Stockholm Syndrome? So stop waving the flag of your government in support of victims from 9/11. They would probably still be alive today if your government wasn’t a horrible imperialistic terrorist organization.

Again, harsh but true.
